This project focuses on designing an intuitive and inclusive smart home solution that addresses challenges like multi-device control, privacy, and personalisation. The goal is to create a seamless system that enhances daily life, adapts to varying needs, and is future-proof. I decided to set the design and my research areas in 2050, as technology is advancing so fast, allowing for innovations like AI, automation, and enhanced accessibility features to shape the system. This is where I got a grasp of what smart homes are and the problems in the world that could be solved in this project.

What is a smart home?

A smart home uses internet-connected devices to control devices remotely, such as the heating system and lighting. This technology is part of the IoT (Internet of Things), which will enhance security, convenience, and energy efficiency through automation and smart devices.

How does smart home technology work?

A smart home is controlled via a central hub, which is a network of connected devices such as an Echo or a Google Home. These devices connect and communicate through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. They can be scheduled or voice-activated, e.g., Alexa Assistant.
