Apple Watch
The Apple watch was designed by Jony Ive and Appleās design teams and launched in 2015. these watches were designed to be integrated with iPhones and were the first wearable products released by Apple. this design includes a retina display with force touch, the apple watch can track heart rate and deliver notifications for high/low heart rates. in 2017 ECG functionality was added to the series 4 watch, and in 2020 blood oxygen sensor was added to the series 6 watch. this watch comes in 41mm and 45mm with the series 7 watch. this watch also includes cellular features to allow calls and messages without the iPhone. also allows for Apple Pay, GPS and streaming music.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
the first galaxy watch was released in 2018 after the success of Samsung gear, this watch was designed to integrate with Android and iOS smartphones. this watch offers features for navigation, and LTE models for phone calls and texts with no phone nearby. this watch is water-resistant and can be used in up to 5 ATMs for swimming and water sports. this watch tracks steps, calories, distance, heart monitoring sleep, ECG and blood pressure and blood oxygen levels. similar to the Apple watch it supports Samsung pay and NFC payments. this watch also can have different set modes for workouts, automatic workout detection and GPS tracking.
Google Pixel Watch
This watch was launched in 2022 and was googles first ever smartwatch, it runs on Wear OS and was a collaboration with Samsung, this watch is a round display similar to the galaxy watch. this watch integrates with pixel phone and android devices seamlessly. This watches features are similar to the galaxy watch but integrate and include the google applications such as gmail, calendar and keep. this watch had fit-bit integration which allows for advanced fitness and health tracking. this watch also incudes Google assistant allowing voice commands and smart device controls. this watch also has a 24hr battery life on a single charge. google maps is integrated on the watch and allows for navigation straight from the device.
Fitbit
Fitbit was a pioneer in the fitness tracker industry as it launched its first watch in 2009. This started as a clip-on wearable tracker but has evolved into a wrist worn device with smart features. This watch tracks the steps, calories burned , heart rate, sleep allowing a more holistic view on health. Fitbit monitors sleep and provides a sleepscore to improve sleeping habits. Fitbit introduced FitBit Sense which introduced health metrics like stress management, ECG, guided breathing sessions and skin temperature sensors. Also useful tools for tracking menstrual cycles and log symptoms. fit bit offers different ranges of watches such as Fitbit premium and Fitbit Charge. Fitbit was acquired by Google in 2021 allows it health and Fitbit expertise into the google ecosystem.
After the success of wearable technology there was a surge in the development of smartwatch apps. these apps were designed to enhance the functionality of the watches making it easier for everyday tasks. These developers saw potential to give personalised information to the users from the health monitoring, navigation and communication. The integration of sensors in these watches opens up new development's for apps such as including heart rates and real time data collection.
Spotify vs apple music smartwatch app
Spotify has a smartwatch app that allows users to listen offline by downloading music, podcast and albums allowing them to listen without and internet connection. control music from the watch such as play pause, skip and the name of the song. also on the app interface you can access playlists and have personalised recommendations. the app allows users to connect and control music on other devices eg speakers. the usability of this app is user-friendly, visually appealing but as of the limited scrolling feature the users will have to scroll to find information syncing the watch with the phone app is easy allowing users to search for music and download music easier and listen and control through the smartwatch app.
