For this project, the brief was to create an idea and a design focused on University Life. We will not be given a specific Brief for this Project like last semester. By week three, we should have a solidified brief for the projects, focusing on the user and the users’ needs by conducting research. For this project, we will need to do in-depth research about University life and find the areas of improvement that will benefit the users and improve the user experience of the university and how students, staff and stakeholders live. I want to have a look at the different competitors and what they have to offer in the subject area I came up with after ideation. For the first three weeks of the course, we were put into groups to do research.
Firstly, for this project, I started by making a mind map of everything I could think of doing with university life. This helped me start thinking of an area I could make an app about. Some ideas that I looked at were the social life, studying, finances, technology, housing, and applying for university. I also did a mindmap on the ux that is already available in university life, which will help me think that I want to make something unique and interesting rather than the more informational ux in univeritys.
To start the first week of this semester, we were put into specific research groups; I was in a group with Erin, Christian and Magdalena. To start our research, we decided to do some research on innovation, university life in the UK, university life in another country after we did this we didn’t collaborate very effectively so we decided to meet up in a library study groups which helped as we talked about what we had found and bounced ideas off of each which was important especially for ideation. After this, I decided that I would create some surveys that we can use and send to people so that we can get first-hand information. I had responses from Ulster, Queens and universities in America. To make the survey information easier for us as a group to discuss, I decided to put the feedback into a chart GPT to reduce the information into one paragraph so we could find common problems or things that are good. It was easier for us to discuss and find common areas. So, after getting the survey feedback, we decided to do a task to write down all of the different things we could think of on a mind map, which helped us to come up with innovative and different ideas. Then Erin suggested that we do an activity for thirty minutes so that we could dive further into a specific area that was ideated on the mind map. I decided to take the extracurricular activities sections as it was a huge part of the American university social life, and I wanted to find out more about this.

Firstly, I decided to make a mindmap discovering the different aspects of ux in university, which gives me a starting point for my research. After the mindmap, I wanted to explore different problems within the university sector, in terms of the university as a whole, the students and 6th form students. Overall, I think that this helped me get an understanding of what I can solve with my app.
This promotes fair treatment in historically marginalised groups that have faced discrimination in higher education.
