During this week's lecture, we covered Artificial Intelligence. I thought this was a really fun lecture as there were many differnt tasks that we did which kept it engaging, including looking at two images side by side and trying to guess which was the AI and not. I thought this was actually really hard. We also explored how different brands use AI. We looked at political propaganda, celebrity impersonation and identity theft and fraud, which I found interesting as it really showed me the negatives of AI, and I wanted to find out more about the negatives, but I also wanted to look at the positives of using AI.
What is AI

Artificial intelligence is a computer science that is based on replicating human thinking. Some AI platforms will be able to learn from past data and improve their responses without human input. AI can be used with virtual assistants.
Advantages of AI
- Eliminates the human error - AI will be able to produce error-free tasks, they will also be able rot replace humans in dangerous jobs, eg high radiation areas.
- 24/7 availability - ai can operate continuously 24/7, this can enable 24/7 customer service.
- Unbiased decision making - AI will be able to make objective decisions if trained on unbiased data. This can be useful in hiring processes, but the information will need regular checks to avoid data-driven bias
- AI can handle repetitive jobs, such as data entry and report generation. This will free humans for creative and strategic tasks
- Cost reduction over time - AI will increase productivity and will cut labour costs by automating manual tasks
- Data analytics - AI will also be able to process and interpret large amounts of data quickly, and will enable real-time insights and analytics
Disadvantages of AI
- Costly implementation of AI - AI can cost tens of thousands to millions, and the upfront cost is very high.
- lack of empathy - AI can't replicate human emotions or original creativity. AI is bad at handling emotional activities. There is also a risk of AI bias in emotion recognition.
- Degradation over time - the AI hardware and the software degrade without regular maintenance and will require more updates and retaining to stay up to date.
- There i no improvement with the experience - most AI don't learn from their mistakes without human intervention, and self learning AI is very complex and expensive
- Reduced jobs for humans - AI automates the repetitive jobs, which can also lead to unemployment, but also new job creation is possible, but retaining the working sis a challenge.
