- saves time - it is the quickest way to create ideas and ideate. Working on paper is faster than Figma and quicker than tweaking things during the development. Working with a pencil will help explore ideas more rapidly without looking into the finer details.
- reduces the cognitive load - sketching will simplify the complex problems rather than looking at the layout, the UI components, and the colours in figures, you can focus on the structure and flow of the app first.
- encourages the early collaboration - paper sketching helps communicate ideas to teammates. These quick layouts are ideal for gathering feedback early, before you invest loads of time.
- Fail faster and learn faster - sketching allows designers to make mistakes earlier, it is better to realise the problems in the sketches than hours in Figma, early feedback on paper saves time, encourages discussions and helps align the team's ideas
Wireframing Class Task - Plant Pot Task
During the lecture, we were put into groups where we were tasked to design an app interface, where we had to design a plant pot app where the user will be able to change the plant in the pot with ease. We started by making a user flow so we could see the steps of the users, which helped us create the wireframe and the process of the users changing the plant. After this, we split off into two groups. Within the groups, so we could get more ideas, we decided to conduct crazy 8s, where we wanted to get as many ideas down in a quick period. After crazy 8s, we decided to combine the ideas of the 2 groups to create a seamless user journey through the app. I liked this task because it made us all think out of the box and more about the functionality of the app rather than the aesthetics.
