During this lecture, we looked at how colour is important to have consistency throughout your brand from the logo to the wall of the branch and advertisements. Colour is an important factor in how your brand is perceived as colour can have physiological meaning. we also look at the concept of brand guidelines and why it was important to have these as they allow consistency for the brand.
Colour plays an important role when keeping your brand clean and constant across, the web, print and production. some companies fail at this which can affect how the brand is perceived and it becomes less recognisable. there are 4 main colour systems of Print and onscreen design, which are CMYK, Pantone< RGB and RAL. Knowing the differences between these will allow you to have a perfect consistent design rather than something completely different online to the printed version.
This is when 4 colours are applied during the printing process, these colours are Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. this is a subtractive colour system which means that the ink will be removed to allow for the creation of a lighter colour. the goal for this colour system is that the ink ton absorbs the light that is reflected in a white background such as printer paper, when all colours are combined and the light absorbed it will appear black. This process is for magazines and books, at-home printers and colour laser printers.
The Pantone colour matching system which is widely used on printers to replicate tone and graphics using a standardised guideline, ensures that manufacturers can get a distinct colour and be able to match it on print. the colours are defined as singular units, most Pantone colours are generated with 13 base pigments allowing for unique colours which are then labelled vis a number code which allows for consistency in brands and design. Pantone colours have over 1800 different colours. This is a more accurate colour match than other systems. Pantone is used with wife and id the standard language for colour communication in the print world.
this is for web and screen colour and is one of the most important and recognisable systems for colour in digital media. the colour system uses a series of numbers from 0-255. and uses the 3 primary colours which then form the other colours. RGB is a light additive colour model so when the colours are added together they create lighter colors. the screen starts with a black screen and the addition id red green and blue lights allows it to create colours when the light is combined forming white.
The RAL colour system defines the matte, glossy and metallic surface colour, this is the baseline for coatings such as for automotive and bicycles. this colour system is used for powder coatings, varnish and plastic colouring and is the to-go system when creating physical Products that need to be coated.
Hex Code is a 6-digit code / 3 two-digit code for web development and screen process. These codes represent red green and blue. If there is 0 red, 0 green and 0 blue it produces black. If there are equal levels of each it will create a green.
In branding, colour can impact the consumer’s impressions and the brand and can persuade them to make a purchase or change the brand. research shows that personal preferences, experiences, upbringings, cultural differences, and contact can affect the perception of colours. colours can show off your brand’s personality
