The illustration is used to show a purpose and has to convey meaning, illustration can be used throughout UX allowing information to be explained and making it more interesting for the viewer. humans respond to images quicker than to words so illustration can help explain the information faster than the title and the input of information is quicker. I have seen illustrations in many different types of design and never considered how they can help information be portrayed faster and more interesting for the viewer.
Illustration can be anything form icons to mascots, there are many different types of illustrations in UX including
- themes - this can establish the tone and concept of the app and allows for visual connection for the user allowing it to be more appealing for the user.
- rewards - this can be badges, stickers, diamonds, trophies and other items that give a game like feel to the app and allow the user to track progress when using the app.
- onboarding - this happens when the launched when there are new updates and features ate released and customers can engage wit the illustration theses are usually non functional. this can also happen when a user opens the app eg Disney plus.
- entertainment - this have little to do with the performance of the app but they give a aesthetic feel and attract the user to the area of the app. these can allow the user to trust the company as of the enjoyment of the features and retain these users.
- Tutorial - these can be the visual cues of the application, these are descriptive and have the goal of explaining functions this make it more friendly, these work well in a mobile interfaces with limited screen areas as the features can be addressed but only with the illustration these are aimed towards the children and teenagers
- mascots - mascots can help create an atmosphere and tone for the interface, these can serve as a figurative face for a product, these can be sysbolic of of the values of the brand.
Master Apprentice
I recreated these illustrations by following a YouTube video. I am impressed with the outcome of the illustration. I used Procreate on an iPad to create this illustration, which allowed me to get details and the different brush textures such as the spray paint brush that called for a more interesting illustration. I think the bird is more successful but the whale is more detailed I would like to explore illustration in the future further so I can develop my skills.
